Midas Homes is the Homes and Communities Agency's development partner for the Dolcoath Development and it will be building this mixed use scheme in Camborne. Outline planning permission was approved in October 2007 for 390 residential units, 4,812sqm of business floorspace, 2,467sqm of light industrial floorspace, community provision and open space. This scheme will also deliver the next phase of the East West link road, designed as a new avenue linking Wesley Street to Dolcoath.
An application for reserved matters was submitted in January 2008 to seek approval for the details of part of the first phase (1a). This includes a total of 95 dwellings of which 25 will be affordable, comprising 18 houses and 7 apartments. The remaining 70 units will be open market, comprising 52 houses in a range of sizes and 18 apartments.
The second reserved matters application for further housing is currently being prepared and will be submitted early in 2009.
Work has commenced on site with the remediation of the contaminated land including mineshaft capping and the complete eradication of the Japanese knotweed.
An additional project has begun for an artist to develop a special work to be integrated into the development. This will commemorate the history and importance of the site. This will be funded by Midas Homes, the Homes and Communities Agency and will involve close working with a community advisory group.
