Work is now well underway to improve East Hill Junction in Pool and its connection to the A30 along Tolvaddon Road. This is being significantly enhanced to support a range of regeneration projects in the area and will form a new gateway to Pool.

The £5 million of works are being forward funded by the Homes and Communities Agency, and will be managed by Cornwall County Council, in close collaboration with the Highways Agency. To ensure that the scheme is completed on time the South West Regional Development Agency has served a Compulsory Purchase Order (CPO) covering only the area of the junction improvements. The scheme should be completed by spring 2010 and is being carried out in three phases:

Phase one will see improvement works from the A30 to the junction of Trevenson Lane and Gas Lane, including the installation of a traffic light controlled junction. This first phase is able to proceed without a CPO.

Phase two will include the widening of Gas Lane to give access to properties on East Hill and a neighbouring development plot which has been earmarked for a new hotel and office space. These works fall under the East Hill CPO.

Phase three will widen the road between Trevenson Lane and East Hill, and include a traffic light controlled junction in place of the current double roundabout. These works also fall under the East Hill CPO.
