The business growth initiative is a project set up to address the role of the town centres of Redruth and Camborne as well as supporting small retailers in Pool, in the wider context of the regeneration of the CPR corridor.

The business communities, chambers of commerce and town centre retailers identified the need to support small businesses in the town centres in the face of a competitive and ever changing environment that is high street retail in the 21st century.

The result has been the creation of a post of Business Growth Manager, whose role is to work with individual companies, business communities and other partners and stakeholders to rejuvenate and grow town centre retail in Redruth and Camborne and to support SMEs with business development issues across the area.

This is currently being addressed in the following ways:

  • working with existing business owners to develop and initiate growth plans for their companies and supporting entrepeneurs who want to start businesses in the town centres
  • developing a sense of community amongst all town centre businesses, giving retailers of all sizes an opportunity to address problems and investigate opportunities for the towns to grow
  • working with the business communities to address common areas of concern and barriers to growth
  • positive marketing of the town centres in terms of places to shop, do business and spend time
  • bringing together partners, stakeholders and interested parties to work together to achieve growth and sustainability for the town centres, resulting in varied and vibrant commercial centres
  • coordinating existing schemes, events and initiatives and promoting a common, cohesive marketing strategy for the town centres

The Business Growth Manager, Matt Powell, contributes a monthly column to the Camborne Town Crier. If you have missed the newsletter you can download his columns here.
