Local jobs boost

Almost 60 jobless people from Camborne, Pool and Redruth are now in work thanks to a pilot project created by CPR Regeneration.

The project - funded by Jobcentre Plus and Objective 1 - has been a great success, achieving all its targets five months ahead of schedule.

CPR Works helps jobless people gain the skills they need to find work, and works with local businesses to identify job opportunities for those people. As well as helping 58 people into jobs, the project has also delivered more than 180 accredited qualifications in a variety of sectors including construction, care, and customer service. In total the project has worked with more than 250 jobless people across the area.

Camborne firm, Bryan Lawrence Gundry Accountants has employed two people through the CPR Works project.

Owner Bryan Gundry said: "CPR Works sent two people to us for interview and by working with the CPR Works team we have been able to take on both. This is a great project that has helped us find the people we need."

One of those employees, Dawn Ratcliff, struggled to get back into work after having a child. She received training from CPR Works and help towards childcare costs.

Dawn said: "Thanks to CPR Works I have been given the opportunity to prove myself and get back into work. The project has also given me the opportunity to build up my confidence by learning new skills, and I have recently completed a First Aid in the Workplace course."

Peter, another employee, said "CPR Works is a very professional organisation with thoughtful and friendly staff who were a great help to me in finding suitable employment."

Sarah Newham, Business Engagement Co-ordinator at CPR Works said: "We have had a great response from local businesses and individuals and have been able to meet both their needs. CPR Works continues to go from strength to strength."
Nigel Tipple, chief executive of CPR Regeneration, said: "Our job is not just about physical development but also about people development. CPR Works has already made a huge difference to the lives of many people by giving them the skills and confidence to return to work. We are now looking at how we can secure the funding to extend the project beyond the end of this year."
