Redruth businesses encouraged to go 'green'

Redruth looks set for a cleaner and greener image thanks to a new initiative being launched in the town on Friday August 8th.

Businesses in the town are being encouraged to sign up to The Tidy Business Awards scheme which aims to educate and reward good environmental practice.

A team from Kerrier District Council and CPR Regeneration will be on hand in the town on launch day for businesses to find out how they can get involved.

The Tidy Business Awards is a National scheme run by ENCAMS, the people behind the Keep Britain Tidy scheme, and is being led in Redruth by Kerrier District Council. Businesses involved with the scheme will be assessed and awarded either a Bronze, Silver or Gold level depending on how tidy they are.

Cllr Mark Kaczmarek, Kerrier District Council's portfolio holder for the environment, said: "I am positive that the partnership working between Kerrier District Council and CPR Regeneration on a scheme that encourages businesses in the town to take the initiative, will clearly reap benefits both environmentally and visually in Redruth Town."

Andy Mead, Lead officer for the Tidy Business Award at Kerrier District Council, said: "We are delighted to be introducing the scheme in Redruth. The initiative encourages businesses to introduce new initiatives for managing their waste as well as improving the local environment. It's a great scheme and we hope to get as many businesses signed up as possible."

Matt Powell, Business Growth Manager at CPR Regeneration, the urban regeneration company for Camborne, Pool and Redruth, works closely with local retailers and other businesses in the area.

Matt said: "It's great Redruth is leading the way in the local area with this scheme which will no doubt bring benefits to everyone in the town. This is a great opportunity for businesses and visitors to Redruth to take pride in their Town and do their bit for the environment."

To coincide with Redruth's new greener approach, new cotton shopping bags will also be launched next Friday (August 8th), and visitors at the weekly Farmers Market will be among the first be receive the new bags which will bear the logo: "Love Redruth, ditch the plastic".
