It's a Yappy Christmas in Redruth

A mysterious group calling themselves the "Graffiti Grannys" (sic) hit Redruth Town Centre on Sunday as part of their on-going spree to decorate the Cornish urban landscape with their handiwork.  The 'Tinner's hounds' which sit on Redruth's Fore Street were dressed in hand-knitted colourful cardigans, coats, earrings and even anklets!  The group describe themselves on their facebook page as "A group of middle aged granny urban woolerists, you won't see us or hear us, but you will know we have been there!!!!!"  The group has previously visited Mousehole, Penzance and other Cornish places.

Barbara Ellenbroek, owner of the Arts and Graphics shop next to the dogs commented:
"I think they're brilliant!  It puts a smile on people's faces, and that's an important thing particularly in the current economic climate.  It's superb."

Krissie MacLaren, a member of the Redruth Chamber of Commerce added:
"It's been a real talking point, it really brightens up the area and I think it's really sweet as well."

Lee Dunkley, Redruth's Town Development Manager said:
"I challenge anyone to look at the dogs in their current state and not smile.  I know the graffiti grannys in other areas in the past have been criticised - but in my opinion they are welcome in Redruth.  The local community has been working hard to improve this town, and the graffiti grannys have only added to the great sense of community we experience here."
