Redruth Farmers' Market continues to attract the crowds

Almost two months in, and Redruth's weekly farmers' market continues to attract locals and visitors to the town looking to buy locally.

Every Friday, Market Place, under the town clock tower is lined with traders from across the local area.

With tasty offerings from fine local food producers and unique crafts and gifts, visitors can take their time browsing through the selection of stalls and experience the full colour and smells of the delicious food on offer.

Markets in Redruth date back to 1333 when the town was granted its charter permitting a weekly market and annual fair.

Stuart Allen, Redruth Town Market manager, said the response to the market has been really encouraging.

"I have had so many comments from locals about what a positive impact the market has had on the town. The response from visitors has been just as positive with most people saying they wish we could make it bigger.

"Traders have echoed the positive feedback with the majority of them having been here from the first week."

Sarah Grose of BakerTom, one of the stallholders that has been at the market from the start said: "The market is proving a must date in the diary and we sell out every week. There's a real enthusiasm for sourcing products locally and the response we've had proves just that."

Another trader, Ivor Sirett of Unique wood carving, based in Beacon said: "Things have been going really well. Redruth is a surprisingly very profitable place. There's been a real interest in the unique products I'm selling, all made from local wood."

Redruth's town Mayor, Cllr Barbara Ellenbroek, officially opened the market when it started in June and also helps run Arts & Graphics, a shop in town.

Cllr Ellenbroek said: "Redruth's weekly farmers market does a great job in highlighting the importance of our local produce. We're seeing a positive effect on trade every Friday with more people in Redruth."

Viv Box of Market Way Café, a trader in the town, said she has noticed a significant increase of people every Friday.

"It has been quite astonishing the amount of extra business the market generates. Stallholders, locals and visitors to the town are all saying how wonderful the market is and there's a great atmosphere in the town every Friday. Long may it last."

Matt Powell, Business Growth Manager at CPR Regeneration, the urban regeneration company for Camborne, Pool and Redruth, works closely with local retailers and other businesses in the area.
Matt said: "It's great to see the Redruth bustling every Friday. The market's doing a great job at showing off what great product offerings we have available from our local producers.

"I am delighted with the take up and support from local producers and encourage as many people as possible to continue to support Redruth's Farmers Market."

The Farmers' Market is held every Friday from 9am.
