Finance Course Proves Popular in Pool

Fourteen people from a range of local businesses including hairdressers, care home workers and nurseries are getting together to sort out their finances and gain a national qualification in literacy at the same time.

The personal finance course is being delivered through CPR Regeneration by Skills for Business as part of work funded through the European Social Fund.  The course is one of a number being organised by CPR Regeneration to help local people and businesses improve their skills base.

UK government statistics (link 1 below) indicate that '23.8 million adults (75% of the adult population of working age) in England had numeracy skills below Level 2, the level of a good pass at GCSE, and 17.8 million (56%) had literacy skills below this level.'

Most importantly for those thinking of improving their skills government research also shows that 'Poor literacy and numeracy skills result in a cost to UK industry of around £4.8bn per year.  Employees with poor basic skills will earn, on average, 11% less than colleagues who have these skills' (link 2 below).

CPR Regeneration is encouraging businesses and individuals to improve their skills base and can even offer bespoke courses based around a company's paperwork for larger organisations.  More scheduled courses are planned over this summer please call Kay on 01209 722010 or email training@cprregeneration.co.uk for details.
