Final phase of Camborne public realm works

The final phase of a multi-million pound investment in improving public areas in Camborne and Redruth will get underway in the New Year.

Areas around Church Street, Church Lane and Trevu Road in Camborne will see a number of improvements. Work is due to start in January and will be finished by the end of March.

The work will include the installation of new cast iron railings and an archway along the boundary of the Saint Martin and Saint Meriadoc church and Church Street; the design, fabrication and installation of a series of carved Portland stone plaques depicting the life of Saint Meriadoc along the church wall on Church Lane, and new granite pavement along Trevu Road (East) to link to the Cross.

Nigel Tipple, chief executive of CPR Regeneration, the urban regeneration company for Camborne, Pool and Redruth, said: "The public realm works are having a considerable impact in improving the quality of the streetscape within Redruth and Camborne. This is the final phase of a project which has seen £5 million invested in Camborne and Redruth over the last few years to increase the vitality of the two town centres."

Planned improvements to the entrance to Camborne Station and the station car park have been put on hold. Although originally included in the public realm project, it is unlikely it could be delivered in the next six months when the project comes to an end due to unresolved ownership issues.

A development brief and planning application for this project will still be progressed to enable it to happen in the future should funding become available.
