£4 million of Workspace Announced for Treleigh

A £4 million project to create nine high quality industrial units and offices and 89 jobs at Treleigh Industrial Estate has been approved for more than £2 million of ERDF (European Regional Development Fund) Convergence investment.

The project will involve building over 2,500 sq m of business/workshop units; giving a range of varied sized small units to suit start up and smaller businesses and providing high quality, low maintenance, environmentally friendly and low energy use accommodation. The units are all to be built with a BREEAM 'excellent' rating. BREEAM is a way of measuring environmental sustainability in buildings.

Acorn Developments, which is also investing just over £2 million, is to carry out the scheme at the industrial estate, which is near Redruth.

Andy Davis, partner in Bodmin based Acorn Developments, said, "We're delighted that the project has now been awarded ERDF funding assistance. We are also very grateful to those at CPR Regeneration and SWRDA whose hard work has helped make this project possible. We've now started on site and hope to have the first units available for occupation next summer.

"The units we're providing are aimed at small to medium sized businesses and will be available for sale, for part-ownership or to let. We've also added in some design flexibility and options to change internal layouts or the amount of office and workshop content. We hope these features and the high quality specification will prove both attractive and affordable to a wide range of businesses."

Carleen Kelemen, Director of the Convergence Partnership Office for Cornwall and the Isles of Scilly, said, "This is one of a raft of investments for workspace projects worth almost £40 million that have so far been supported by the ERDF Convergence programme. These units are being built in an area of Cornwall that has been specifically targeted for economic regeneration and will support business activity to add value to the local economy by providing high quality premises'."

Carolyn Rule, Cornwall Council cabinet member for economy and regeneration, said, "Camborne Pool Redruth is one of the key locations for business and employment in Cornwall. This use of ERDF Convergence will help provide the environment for the private sector to grow and flourish which is vital to our future economic success."

Neil Lindsey, European Team Director for CPR Regeneration, the urban regeneration company for Camborne, Pool and Redruth said, "It is good to see projects like this now ready to start on site.  We have been working hard behind the scenes to help businesses and developers with investments like this that will see more quality sustainable jobs brought into the area and we are very happy to see this coming to fruition on Treleigh Industrial Estate in Redruth."
